New Abarth 124 Spider makes Geneva debut

The Geneva Motor Show is always the place to be for high-profile vehicle debuts, and the 2016 event was no different. One manufacturer that attracted a lot of attention was Italian firm Abarth which pulled the wraps off its 124 Spider at the show.

The model aims to deliver an authentic roadster experience for buyers while staying true to the firm’s sporty values. The Abarth Racing Team had a big part to play in the car’s development to make sure that it followed others in the range with a motorsport-like driving dynamic.

With a rear-wheel drive architecture and limited-slip differential, the 124 Spider is certainly prepared for trips to the track. It also boasts perfect weight distribution and a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio that helps it to pull forward with a satisfying amount of energy.

A 168bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir powertrain with 250Nm of torque is fitted in the engine bay to propel the roadster from 0-60mph in around 6.8 seconds. Abarth has also added a Record Monza exhaust system to bring a racier growl from the engine and excite even more of the senses.

A long bonnet and classic sports car proportions underline the model’s credentials as a road-legal racer, while the interior is focused on comfort through ergonomics. Leather upholstery dresses the cockpit with a feeling of luxury, and details such as an aluminium pedal board, compact steering wheel and short gear lever enhance the sporty theme.

The Abarth 124 Spider will go on sale at Lipscomb Abarth in September. Contact us today to find out more about the brand and its current range of performance-focused models.
