Volvo Universe Concept Unveiled in Shanghai

The Volvo Universe Concept has been unveiled at the 2011 Shanghai International Auto Show. The Universe Concept exhibits a design study exploring ideas for their future luxury sedan.

The Universe Concept breathes a new language of Volvo whilst incorporating traditional values. After Chinese firm Geely acquired Volvo they were keen to embark on new challenges but still represent Volvo philosophy. Designers were asked to visit the Volvo museum to gain inspiration and understand the history of the brand when designing a new style direction.

Volvo have produced a design concept that has been heavily sculpted, similar to the detail of the new Volvo S60. The bonnet, grille and headlights of the new Volvo Universe Concept however are modelled from the classic Volvo PV544.

Step inside the new Volvo Universe Concept and admire the large touch screens that replace traditional controls. A raised centre console flowing through the cabin and the four seat layout establish Volvo’s modern direction.

Production details of the Volvo Universe concept have not been released but Volvo have explained that the new sedan will embody their new Scalable Platform Architecture which is currently in development.

Stefan Jacoby, president and chief executive of Volvo Car Corporation said: "When our next luxury sedan arrives in a few years, it will be among the first Volvos built on our new Scalable Platform Architecture. All our large and mid-size cars will eventually be based on SPA".

The Shanghai Auto Show runs from 19th to the 28th April 2011 showcasing great new ideas and vehicles within the motor industry. Contact our Lipscomb car dealer in Kent for more information.
