What is a RICA upgrade?
A RICA upgrade is the modification of the software in the engine management system, or ECU as it is commonly known. The software stored in the ECU is used to control the engine’s performance characteristics as well as controlling many other systems such as emissions and diagnostics functions. The RICA upgrade however, only alters the performance of the engine under part throttle and full throttle conditions. None of the diagnostic functions, idle, cold start or emissions controls are altered so your car remains 100% service compliant and the emissions will satisfy all current European emissions regulations.
How is the upgrade installed?
Your car is connected to our computer running specialist software which reads the original software in the ECU which is then modified and programmed back into the ECU. There are no physical changes to the car.
How much will it cost?
To upgrade your XC90 at Lipscomb will cost just £595 incl. VAT. And the upgrade and inspection can be carried out within a day. Speak to a member of our service team about a RICA upgrade, they will be happy to answer any questions you may have and will advise you when the car can be booked into our workshop for the upgrade.
