Major European manufacturers recommend you change your tyres at 3mm, owing to the reduction in grip in wet weather and increased risk of aquaplaning. In short, when you let your tyres wear down to the legal minimum of 1.6mm, it will take you three extra bus lengths to stop from 70mph!
How Can I Make Sure My Tyres are as Safe as Possible?
Every two weeks, check the pressure of your tyres when they are cold. heck the tread depth of your tyres. Although the minimum legal tread depth in 1.6mm, we recommend that tyres should be replaced when the tread depth reaches 3mm. Remember, as your tread depth decreases, your stopping distance in wet weather will increase. This is even more significant for cars with larger wheels and wider tyres. It is also important to check your tyres for damage; look out for any cuts, cracks or bulges as these can lead to slow punctures and blowouts. Don’t forget to also check the pressure and tread depth of your spare tyre (if fitted).
At Lipscomb Fiat are able to offer a wide selection of tyres for your vehicle. If your tyres are approaching the legal tread limit of 1.6mm we can supply you with new tyres to fit your Fiat, plus we also offer complimentary puncture repairs on all tyres purchased from Lipscomb.
