Battery Health Check
AVILOO Certified Partner
The battery is the single most expensive part of any electric car, and it is the one part you cannot see. An AVILOO test measures it independently, in about three minutes, and gives you a certificate that says exactly how healthy it is. Available now at Lipscomb in Maidstone and Canterbury.
AVILOO battery testing, provided by Battery Health Check
Every electric car carries a battery management system, and it reports a state of health figure of its own. That figure is the car's own estimate, produced by the same vehicle you are trying to assess. It is not an independent measurement, it is not comparable between makes, and it is not evidence anybody outside the car will accept.
An AVILOO test measures the battery from the outside and reports on it independently. The result does not come from Lipscomb and it does not come from the car. It comes from AVILOO, and neither we nor anyone else can edit it. That is precisely what makes it worth having.
Whether you are buying your next electric car or selling the one on your drive:
No workshop time, no rig, no stripping anything out. The AVILOO box travels between cars and plugs into the standard diagnostic port under the dashboard.
One of our team plugs the AVILOO box into the car's OBD-2 port, the same socket used for an MOT emissions check. The car stays where it is. Nothing is dismantled and nothing is altered.
The box reads the battery directly rather than accepting the car's own summary of itself, and sends what it finds to AVILOO over its own built-in mobile connection. The car does not need to be driven.
About three minutes after the box is connected, AVILOO issues the certificate. It is produced by AVILOO, not by us, and it cannot be edited by the dealer, by Battery Health Check, or by anybody else.
Every test produces a certificate showing:
You receive the full certificate for your own records. There is also a version with the vehicle identification number removed, which is safe to publish on an advert if you are selling the car privately or want to show it to a buyer.
A real AVILOO certificate from a UK test. The dealer name, vehicle identification number and QR code have been obscured here for publication.
Where the vehicle qualifies, AVILOO stands behind its own test. If the battery's State of Health falls below the limit forecast for that specific vehicle during the warranty period, AVILOO pays out £2,700. It costs the customer nothing, and it is tied to the vehicle rather than to you, so it passes to the next owner if you sell.
Plug-in hybrids receive a battery health certificate but are not eligible for the warranty. Batteries already close to the end of their usable life, broadly below 70% State of Health, are excluded. The warranty complements a manufacturer battery warranty, it does not replace it. Full terms are issued with the certificate.
A real AVILOO Battery Warranty certificate issued in the UK, with the customer name, vehicle identification number and warranty number removed.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, if a fault appears in the first six months after you buy a used car, it is presumed to have been there when you bought it unless the retailer can show otherwise. Battery condition is exactly the kind of thing that argument turns on, and it is far easier to settle when there is an independent measurement from the day of sale.
A certificate also tells you something the advert cannot: how this particular car's battery compares with others of the same age and mileage. Two identical cars on the same forecourt can be in genuinely different condition.
Battery condition is the first question most buyers ask about a used electric car, and without evidence the answer is always a matter of opinion. A certificate answers it before it is asked, and it is independent, so it carries weight that a seller's own assurance does not.
You can publish the redacted version of the certificate with your advert, and any buyer can scan the QR code and confirm it is real. If the car qualifies for the AVILOO Battery Warranty, that transfers to the buyer as well.
The questions we are asked most often about the AVILOO test.
About three minutes from the moment the box is connected. The car stays parked and does not need to be driven, charged or booked in for a workshop slot.
AVILOO covers more than 96% of electric vehicle brands. If you tell us the make, model and year when you get in touch we will confirm before you come in.
Yes, and the difference is the point. The figure on the dashboard or in the app comes from the car's own battery management system. The AVILOO test measures the battery independently and is issued by a third party. On the real test shown on this page, the car reported 99% and the independent measurement was 97.7%.
No. The certificate is generated and issued by AVILOO. Lipscomb cannot edit it, and neither can Battery Health Check. Every certificate carries a QR code so it can be checked against AVILOO's own record.
You get an honest answer, which is the reason for testing. Where a result needs investigating further, AVILOO also offers a longer test that runs over normal driving and reports in more depth. Speak to us and we will explain what the certificate is showing.
Yes, plug-in hybrids can be tested and receive a battery health certificate. The AVILOO Battery Warranty is only available on fully electric vehicles.
Battery Health Check is AVILOO's authorised distributor for the United Kingdom and Ireland, and is the partner supplying and supporting the testing at Lipscomb. AVILOO is the technology and testing partner. The certificate itself always comes from AVILOO.
